Sustainable Energy-Efficient Microwave Antennas - SEMA

Purpose and goal

Additive manufacturing (AM), widely known as 3D printing, has transformed many industries with a continuously growing market. This project investigates the potential of laser powder-bed fusion (LPBF) for 6G antennas and microwave components, aiming to deliver solutions that are more sustainable and energy efficient.

Expected effects and result

Since LPBF has rarely been applied to base stations, the ambition is to provide a conclusive answer regarding its feasibility and opportunities, particularly within the E- and V-bands. The project seeks to expand the adoption of advanced AM for high-frequency communication technologies.

Planned approach and implementation

KTH provides expertise in electromagnetic and antenna theory to create new potential antenna and microwave solutions. Collaboration with local industry specialized in metallic 3D-printed devices in the millimeter-wave regime, together with a large company focused on 6G, ensures both academic and industrial impact.
